Greenberry and Lizzie Templeton Household: 1910 US Census - Wallowa, Wallowa County, Oregon |
This is very interesting. In 1900 G. S. Templeton (Greenberry Shields) had a second wife Hattie and a late in life son, Jay and an adopted son, Edison. In the 1910 Census Greenberry has a new wife Lizzie Lenord (possibly Leonord). He has his son Jay and now a new stepson James Lenord. Greenberry Templeton [the father of Julia Aletha (Hamilton) Templeton and Laura Annettie (Hamilton) Templeton] died in Wallowa County on May 14, 1918. |

Greenberry Shields Templeton Family Bible |
One of the treasures that Connie (Hamilton) Boone has in her possession is the Greenberry Shields Templeton family Bible. In this PDF document I have digital photographs of pages of the Bible that contain family records. Between one set of pages is a lock of braided hair. Could it be a lock of hair from Greenberry's first wife, Nancy Jane McCarty, the mother of Julia Aletha and Laura Annette Templeton? I would say this is actually a good guess. The lock of hair is preserved opposite the page that records Greenberry and Nancy's wedding information. Nancy died due to complications from childbirth on Sept. 24, 1882. Her husband and young daughters would have treasured this lock all their days. This Bible is a wonderful record and a family treasure. Thanks to Connie for sharing it with us. Julia Aletha "Allie" was the wife of Frank Hamilton. Laura Annette "Nettie" was the wife of Frank's brother, Judd Hamilton. Both boys were the sons of Supplina and Jane Hamilton. |

Greenbury was the father of Julia Aletha 'Letha' Templeton who married Frank Hamilton (son of Supplina Hamilton). He was also the father of Laura Annettie ('Nettie') Templeton who was the wife of Frank's brother, Judd Hamilton. This document is Greenbury's probate papers. He died without a will and the distribution of his estate in Wallowa (near Enterprise) Oregon was tied up for several years. The estate was not finally settled until after his third wife Lizzie Templeton (formerly Leonard) had passed away. |

Hamilton Family Picnic Register Notebook |
This is a PDF version made up of digital photographs of the old attendee register of the family reunion, "the Hamilton Picnic." The book appears to have been started by Supplina Hamilton's daughter, Ida Cole in 1948. It appears to have been maintained by Frank Hamilton's wife, Allie (Julia Aletha Templeton). It was passed down to Frank's son, Glenn Hamilton and to Glenn's son, Hugh Hamilton. It is currently in the possession of Hugh's daughter, Connie (Hamilton) Boone of Baker City, Oregon. I omitted some pages that were blank. Though not always grouped in chronological order it seems like there was an effort to group the record of those attending the Picnic by family based on who was descended from one of Supplina and Jane's children (Such as the Duron, Frank or Judd Hamilton families or one of the daughters of Supplina and Jane) or grandchildren (such as Duron's son Oscar or Judd's son Maurice). Close cousins such as Supplina Hamilton's brother William's family (Jim and Mernie, Ed and Mildred and children Clarence & Vivian) are especially noted. It is a fascinating record and very valuable in helping us remember our family groups and those who were closely allied as friends of the Hamiltons. The PDF file is a little over 6MB in size and well worth the download. |
